Good morning, it’s Monday, October 5, and it will remain dreadfully hot.
1. The death of the car makeout?
A few weeks ago, Lauren Bans — one of my favorite writers working in L.A. today — sent me an email pitch that made me laugh out loud.
She and her boyfriend are both divorced with kids, meaning that on many a date night, their respective apartments are occupied by babysitters and children. (Read: not a great setting for sexual congress.) So, like many an Angeleno before her, Lauren tried to get busy in a parked car. And found her attempts at vehicular romance stymied by various modern incursions.
Which brought her to her question: In a world dominated by Ring cameras and nosy neighborhood WhatsApp groups, are car hookups now a thing of the past?
She asked if L.A. Material might be interested in an investigation on this important topic. Were we ever. (In case you missed it when we first launched, Lauren is the same writer who delivered another definitive investigation for L.A. Material: “How Many Cars Are Allowed To Turn Left at a Yellow Light?”)
