LOS ANGELES COUNTY HAS APPROVED nearly $14 million in legal payouts to 10 county prosecutors who accused former District Attorney George Gascón and his administration of demoting them or otherwise retaliating against them when they questioned his criminal justice reforms, an L.A. Material review of county records and court filings found.
Adding to the cost, those cases have also incurred more than $3.2 million in legal fees — and the payout total is poised to dramatically rise in coming months as nine more settlements await approval by L.A. County lawmakers, according to legal filings.
