POLITICS IS A LONG GAME. Right now, all eyes are on the marquee battle for Los Angeles mayor in November. But below the surface, obsessive L.A. politicos are already following the sharp-elbowed shadow race for a seat that does not yet exist: Los Angeles County’s first elected CEO.
We are still one year, seven months and three days away from the March 2028 primary. But the trifling matter of time has done little to tamp down rabid speculation about who might be running for a position that’s been preemptively described as the mayor of Southern California, or L.A. County’s king or queen.
