Good morning. It’s Monday, October 12. Expect a few morning showers to taper off as the day proceeds.

Along with Umami Burger and the Kogi truck, Soho House holds a prominent place in the memory palace of 2010s Los Angeles. Its first L.A. location, on the top floors of a West Hollywood office building, was an almost guaranteed celebrity sighting. I was never a member, but I did once see Ashton Kutcher and Gerard Butler at adjoining tables.
In recent years, Soho House’s star has dimmed a bit. After a 2021 IPO, its total membership increased by 70% — a potential issue when exclusivity is one of your selling points. A rival club, San Vicente Bungalows, emerged in 2019 but has encountered its own struggles, most recently a kitchen closure due to a vermin infestation in April.
But now a new space is vying to revive the reputation of the celebrity members club: Living Room, a slate-gray building on Cahuenga Boulevard next door to a veterinary hospital.
While many celebrities have been spotted there (Jennifer Lopez) and others are known members (Kaia Gerber), questions still circle the club. Among the most notable: Who owns it? The owner’s identity is obscured in public records for both the club and its building.
But we took a deeper look at those public records, and we have a high-confidence guess about who’s behind Living Room. You may not recognize his name — but you are familiar with his work.
