Palisades Village mall will reopen this weekend amid charred ruins.

On the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Swarthmore Avenue in Pacific Palisades, a shopping complex that once housed an Italian restaurant, a Bank of America and a Starbucks is now a barren, burned-out husk, with only part of its charred facade still standing.
Just across Sunset, however, in a view that makes for a jarring split-screen, developer Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village mall looks as though the devastating Palisades Fire never happened. There is an Erewhon, a Buck Mason, and a new 7,500-square-foot Elyse Walker boutique. Quaint baskets, overflowing with fuschia and pink flowers, hang from lightposts. The siding is white and gleaming.
