1. The “Super El Niño” is already happening. Here’s what experts say could come next.

Like approximately 5 million other people, I saw a post on X yesterday claiming that this season’s “Super El Niño,” a climate phenomenon characterized by very warm waters in the Pacific, “will be perhaps the strongest in 500 to 1000 years, and could legitimately be the most extreme global weather or climate event experienced by humanity since the invention of the printing press.”
The post raised questions for me. I asked the L.A. Material Slack if anyone else had questions about the Super El Niño — they did.
